All good things must come to an end.

Our last day in Florida was quite entertaining.  Alvin and I got up, packed up the room and were on the road by about 10am.  Prior to leaving we said our goodbye’s to our new friends at the Dive Shop and promised we would be back.

Once we got on the road we set our good friend Garmin to lead us to South Beach, Miami.  About 15 minutes out of Key Largo I decided that I wanted to stop at a 7-11 to get myself a Crystal Light slurpee.  So we navigated our way to the nearest 7-11 (which was like 20 miles away from Key Largo) and I got myself the super size Slurpee.  It was sooo good.    So I spend the rest of our ride into South Beach enjoying my Slurpee.

When we were about 10 minutes from our destination Alvin looked at me and started to hysterically laugh.  He told me to look in the mirror and then I saw why he was laughing so hard.  Not only had the slurpee made my lips very, very red – but my teeth and gums were SO RED!  It was like when you were a kid and the dentist gave you those red tabs to help you find out where the plaque was in your mouth!  Oh and no – here we were headed to trendy South Beach and I had red teeth and gums!!  So wrong!

So I immediately started to chew on some Altoids gum – and man, that stuff is a miracle worker!  Within a few minutes my mouth was restored back to normalcy.  Such my luck!!!  I love those Slurpees, but they definitely have a price!

Oh – also – when we were driving into Miami I kept telling Alvin to keep an eye out for Judge Marilyn Milian – from The People’s Court.  As many of you know I LOVE The People’s Court – and I know the Judge Milian lives in Miami.  I guess I was talking about it too much as Alvin said it sounded like I was stalking the woman!!  Oh and no.  So I stopped my rambling on about finding the judge. In the Florida Keys

It is now Sunday night, our last night in the Keys and we are sitting in our hotel room watching Blue Planet on the Discovery channel.  We are enjoying our last night with the patio doors open bringing in the Florida spring breeze – and we can hear the palm trees swaying in the wind while we watch television.

The past couple of days have been very enjoyable.   First of all – although the temperature here in the Keys has been really great (in the 80s and not super humid) the wind has been a bit annoying.    The only issue with the wind is that it impacts our dive experiences as it can play havoc on a planned drive trip.

Anyhow – we got up bright and early Saturday morning for our 7:30 check in for our morning dive.  When we got there we were told that the morning dive may be cancelled.  I guess Alvin and I were the only ones that had shown up – and there needs to be at least four divers to take the boat out.  After about fifteen minutes of waiting around two other divers finally showed up – whew!!!  So the trip was on!

We loaded our gear onto the boat and headed out to sea for our second day of diving.  OH – I forgot to mention that we have had nothing but equipment problems – AGAIN!  On the first day of the dive my dive computer would not work – and then today – we brought the camera out to use this morning and it would not turn on.  What the hell???  So frustrating!  So no camera for us today.  Whatever. Our first day in the Keys

So…I have been in Florida most of the week for business.  Yesterday I drove from Tampa down to Ft Lauderdale where I was meeting Alvin this morning.  My drive was quite unproductive – other than a big piece of road debris ended up on the front of my car.  I was thankfully able to pull off the road and remove the debris – but it could have been a debris disaster. One of the things I have found I really enjoy about Florida is the frequency of 7-11’s on the road.  And not only are there frequent 7-11’s, but the 7-11’s down here happen to have Crystal Light Slurpees…..which are sugar and caffeine free.  And quite yummy if I might add.  After my road debris debacle, I stopped and got a Crystal Light Pomegranate and Berry Slurpee….Had the cup holder in the car been larger I would have gotten the super size….but I stuck to the medium. I made it to Ft Lauderdale with no problems other than a rain storm.  I checked in to my hotel, hit the local Whole Foods for groceries and dinner and attempted to hit the sack at a decent hour.  Unfortunately I was not able to sleep – which is a problem which has affected me this entire trip to Florida. Anyhow – I finally fell asleep, got up early, checked out and was on my way to the Ft Lauderdale airport to pick up Alvin at 8am.  I will admit I was really looking forward to seeing him – it just has been a sucky week with everything with the dog and being away from home has been very difficult.  I was so happy to see Alvin coming down the escalator into the baggage claim area and boy – did he look cranky.  Sigh – not what I was hoping for.More...

His first flight on Jet Blue was not the best….but after about a minute he seemed to be in better spirits – after I let him vent about leaving his palm holder at the Oaktown airport and the Jet Blue agent refusing to let him get off the plane and get it. (more…)
